The Authority of Scripture
At Heritage Bible Church, our creed and basis for doctrine is the Holy Word of God. As the old hymn says, “We need no other argument, we need no other creed.”
Although there are many tenets of the Christian faith that have been affirmed by the church over the ages through various creeds, such as the Apostle’s Creed, we do not hold any creed to the level of scripture in authority. Creeds may help explain or outline doctrine or define the meaning of certain terminology, thereby providing a better understanding of theology, but they are not inspired by God, nor are they all without error. Therefore, although we may agree with specific tenets of many of these creeds, we still maintain God’s Holy Word as the final authority for faith and practice.
The following Statement of Faith is an explanation of what we believe the Bible teaches in specific areas of doctrine. It is not an exhaustive list of everything we believe the Bible teaches, but it is a summary of what we believe to be the basic and essential doctrines of Christianity.
